Extreme Winter Survival Seminar

  • Pleasant Valley Community Center 7234 Anders Ave. Fairbanks, AK, 99712 United States (map)

OVERVIEW: This class will be one of the most challenging presented by Helping Hands. Our instructor "Hook" will be providing the necessary information and procedures needed to aid a person who has fallen through the ice. This is a life and death scenario! The statistics are scary:
A. Your chance of survival breaking through the ice is approximately 75%
B. Alaska has approximately 6 to 8 people per year die due this type of accident usually by drowning
C. 4,000 people have died in FTI (fall through ice) accidents worldwide from 1990 to 2010
D. Chance of surviving this type of accident is much higher in a lake versus the moving water of a river

Part II and the practical application portion of this class will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025. More details to be announced in the near future. I love the spirit of the people of Alaska!
